Problems Rwandan shops face

Every sale needs an EBM receipt, and the fines are heavy.

Since the 2023 tax law, every business must give an EBM receipt on every sale, VAT registered or not. A missing receipt costs 10 times the VAT, or 200,000 RWF if you are not VAT registered, and RRA can close the shop for 30 days. Customers now get 10% of the VAT back for asking for a receipt.

Sources: RRA, About EBM (rra.gov.rw). The VAT reward: RRA, reported by KT Press. Access to finance: World Bank Enterprise Survey, Rwanda 2023.

01

A sale without a receipt can cost you the shop

Qonta gives the EBM receipt at the till with every sale, so no sale is missed.

02

Banks ask for records you do not have

Access to finance is the top obstacle firms in Rwanda name. Qonta keeps the statements a bank asks for.

03

The cash does not match the till

At closing the drawer is counted blind, and Qonta shows any difference, by person.
